The Low Down

Aloha Friends,

Thank you for visiting my food blog, I hope you like it! I am Maui Flour Child. I am an experienced cook and a beginning photographer. I love beach BBQ’s, music festivals, and lazy days with my husband and two beautiful daughters. Most of what I cook is clean and healthy, but don’t hold me to that, like everyone I have my weaknesses!

I was born on Maui and literally grew up on a barstool at my parent’s restaurant. My childhood was a never-ending happy hour filled with sunshine, virgin pina coladas, classic rock music, and a unique behind the scenes view of restaurant operations.

I started cooking at an early age. My mom gave me a lot of freedom in the kitchen. (This was before the days of salmonella.) When I was 9, my Grandma taught me to make guacamole, so I became the official guacamole maker of our family.  My chores growing up were always to help my mom in the kitchen, wash dishes, make the salad, and shred cheese. It was here that my love for food and cooking began.

Today, my husband and I along with our partner Peter Merriman own a restaurant company of our own. It’s called Monkeypod Kitchen by Merriman and we are in turn raising our children on barstools in Hawaii.  I am very proud of my husband and all his hard work.  We are about to open our second restaurant in Ko Olina on the island of Oahu. My family and I will be moving over to the big city for the opening.

Don’t worry, even though we are moving to Oahu I will still be Maui Flour Child. Maui is in my heart and it will always call me back home.

Love,
